Meet Your Solicitor
Tamoor Barlas
Solicitor
I am a solicitor based in Dublin 15. Alongside my commercial practice, I advise individuals, families and businesses on Irish immigration pathways — from employment permits and residency through to family reunification and citizenship.
Relocation is more than a visa application. The people I advise are often making one of the most significant legal and financial decisions of their lives. I combine immigration counsel with tax and corporate insight so your move to Ireland is planned as a whole, not in isolated filings.
Because I practise as both a solicitor and a tax, I can advise on immigration status and the tax consequences of becoming Irish-resident in one engagement — reducing duplication and closing the gap between legal permission and financial planning.
“My job is to take the immigration and tax complexity off your hands — so you can focus on building your life in Ireland.”
Frequently Asked Questions
Probate is the legal process by which the court confirms the validity of a Will and grants the executor authority to administer the estate. A Grant is typically required where the deceased owned sole property, held accounts above certain thresholds, or where institutions require it before releasing assets.
From lodging the application, the Probate Office typically issues the Grant within six to twelve weeks. Full estate administration — collecting assets, paying debts and distributing the estate — often takes six to twelve months or longer for complex estates with multiple assets, Revenue obligations or overseas elements.
Where someone dies without a Will (intestate), the estate is distributed under the Succession Act 1965. The next of kin applies for Letters of Administration rather than a Grant of Probate. The order of distribution is generally spouse or civil partner, then children, then parents, siblings and more distant relatives.
Executors are personally responsible for identifying and collecting the estate's assets, paying all valid debts and taxes, and distributing correctly to beneficiaries. Personal liability can apply if distribution is incorrect, creditors are missed, or Revenue obligations are not addressed before distribution.
Not necessarily. Capital Acquisitions Tax (CAT) is generally assessed individually on each beneficiary based on the value they receive and their relationship to the deceased. The Grant can usually be obtained before CAT is assessed or paid.
Yes. Beneficiaries have legal rights under the Succession Act 1965 and can act if an executor fails in their obligations, delays without reason, or mismanages assets. In serious cases, a court application can remove and replace an executor.
