Meet Your Solicitor
Tamoor Barlas
Solicitor
I am a solicitor based in Dublin 15. Alongside my commercial practice, I advise individuals, families and businesses on Irish immigration pathways — from employment permits and residency through to family reunification and citizenship.
Relocation is more than a visa application. The people I advise are often making one of the most significant legal and financial decisions of their lives. I combine immigration counsel with tax and corporate insight so your move to Ireland is planned as a whole, not in isolated filings.
Because I practise as both a solicitor and a tax, I can advise on immigration status and the tax consequences of becoming Irish-resident in one engagement — reducing duplication and closing the gap between legal permission and financial planning.
“My job is to take the immigration and tax complexity off your hands — so you can focus on building your life in Ireland.”
Frequently Asked Questions
If you die without a Will — known as dying intestate — your estate is distributed in accordance with the Succession Act 1965, regardless of your wishes. Your spouse does not automatically inherit everything. Your unmarried partner inherits nothing under the intestacy rules, regardless of how long you have been together.
Now — regardless of your age, wealth or family circumstances. A Will is relevant from the moment you have assets, a partner, a child or a preference about where your estate goes. Existing Wills should be reviewed after any major life event — marriage, divorce, the birth of a child, or a significant change in assets.
An Enduring Power of Attorney (EPA) is a legal document that appoints someone you trust — called your attorney — to manage your personal and financial affairs if you become mentally incapable of doing so yourself. An EPA must be made while you have capacity — you cannot make one after you have lost it.
The Grant of Probate is typically issued by the Probate Office within 6-12 weeks of the application being lodged. The full estate administration — collecting assets, paying debts and taxes, and distributing the estate — typically takes 6-12 months for a straightforward estate.
Capital Acquisitions Tax (CAT) is charged at 33% on the value of an inheritance above the relevant tax-free threshold. For a child inheriting from a parent, the Group A threshold is currently €400,000. Business Property Relief and Agricultural Relief can reduce or eliminate the CAT on qualifying assets.
