Meet Your Solicitor

Tamoor Barlas

Solicitor

I am a solicitor based in Dublin 15. Alongside my commercial and property practice, I advise executors, administrators and families through the probate and estate administration process — handling the legal and tax work from start to finish.

Probate matters are different from commercial work. The people I advise are often dealing with grief at the same time as navigating legal obligations they have never encountered before. I take that seriously — which means plain English, clear fees, and a process that moves at a pace that works for the family.

Because I practise as both a solicitor and a tax, I can advise on the legal and tax dimensions of an estate in one engagement. That means no duplication, no gap between the legal advice and the tax advice, and a single fixed fee that covers both.

“My job is to take the legal and tax complexity off your hands — so you can focus on your family, not the paperwork.”

Frequently Asked Questions

A solicitor is a qualified legal professional regulated by the Law Society of Ireland. A tax is a specialist in tax law and planning — but is not necessarily legally qualified and does not have legal professional privilege (the protection that prevents Revenue accessing your communications with your adviser). Tamoor is both — a solicitor and a tax — which means you get the tax expertise of a specialist combined with the legal protection of a solicitor. When your tax matter has legal dimensions, both are handled in one engagement.

Legal professional privilege is the protection that prevents Revenue (or any other authority) from accessing the communications between you and your solicitor. If you seek tax advice from an accountant or a non-solicitor tax, those communications are not privileged — Revenue can, in certain circumstances, require the adviser to disclose them. Advice sought from a solicitor is privileged and cannot be accessed. This matters most in the context of Revenue investigations, tax planning and restructuring — where the substance of the advice may be relevant to Revenue’s assessment.

Before — always. Tax advice has the most value before a transaction is structured and signed, when the structure can still be changed. Once a transaction is agreed and completed, the tax consequences are largely fixed. Whether you are selling a business, making a gift, disposing of property or restructuring a company, getting tax advice at the planning stage — before heads of terms or contracts are agreed — is the most commercially valuable thing you can do.

At the outset of every engagement, we agree a fixed fee for the work to be done — whether that is preparing a tax return, advising on a transaction, managing a Revenue matter or providing an opinion on a specific issue. You know exactly what the advice will cost before any work begins. We do not charge by the hour for advisory work — which means you are not penalised for asking questions or for a matter taking longer than expected.
